Professor Graeme L. Close
Graeme is a Reader in Applied Physiology and Sports Nutrition at Liverpool John Moores University, where he is the programme lead for the MSc in Sports Nutrition.
Graeme’s research focuses on the effects of vitamin D deficiencies in athletic performance, the role of antioxidants in the recovery of muscle function and the etiology of age-related loss of muscle mass. From an applied perspective, Graeme is accredited with the UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA), an accredited physiologist with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) and is on the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr).
Graeme has worked with GB Rowing and Munster Rugby and is currently working with England Rugby, Salford Red Devils RLFC and is the lead nutritionist for British Ski and Snowboard; as well as working with professional European Tour golfers. Prior to his academic studies, Graeme was a former professional rugby league player and has represented his country at youth and student level.
