For Volume 4 of our expert-authored Nutrition X-Change papers, we've teamed up with Professor Don Maclaren - Emeritus Professor of Sports Nutrition at Liverpool John Moores University - who has been research-active in the fields of carbohydrate and fat metabolism, nutritional supplements and applied aspects of sports nutrition since 1980.
The 4th edition looks at carbohydrates intake for athletes, specifically carbohydrate intake during exercise and the impact of ingestion on performance as a result. This detailed paper looks at carbohydrates' role in the body, sources and the likely benefits of ingestion during an exercise, particularly prolonged sessions of 60 minutes plus.
With an impressive career spanning over 35 years in sports nutrition, Don currently holds the position of The Nutrition X Consultancy’s Head Nutritionist, as well as Emeritus Professor of Sports Nutrition at Liverpool John Moores University.
