Protein – Why is it so important?

In simple terms, protein is necessary in the body in order to stimulate Muscle Protein Synthesis (MPS); the process through which muscles repair and grow.

Any athlete undertaking any type of training knows that, in order to build muscle strength, they must first put their body through intense exercise, the very nature of which causes micro-injury to the muscles. Muscles then need to repair themselves in order to strengthen and grow through MPS, with the amino acids found in protein a key driver of this process.





WHAT IS A PROTEIN SHAKE?

A protein shake is a convenient powder supplement with a high-protein content, formulated to contain the essential amino acids (EAAs) and branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) that the body needs to stimulate muscle protein synthesis.

Usually taken with milk or water to create a high-protein shake drink, protein powders can also be added to smoothies and baking to offer a protein-packed treat.
